Chevalier T.R.Pinheiro, founder of the Rex Trading Company and Manuel International and father of our Vice-President, Dr.Manuel R.Pinheiro, passes away. Chamber condoled his death.

Mr.Deepak Banker, President, FICCI, was honoured by our Chamber and felicitated at Hotel Palmgrove, Madras. Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, Vice-President, Mr.A.Natarajan, Director, Chennai Doordharshan, spoke about the abilities of Mr.Deepak Banker, Mr.C.Ratan chand Savansukha, President, welcomed the gathering.

Our Chamber honoured Mr.S.Sanjivi, Retd. Executive Secretary for his dedicated service of 14 years. A purse of Rs.25,000/- contributed
by the members of the Chamber was presented to Mr.S. Sanjivi. The function was largerly attended by our Members, invitees and admirers of Mr.S.Sanjivi.

A Condolence Meeting on the demise of the late Janab Haja Shareef was held at M.A.Chidambaram Conference Hall of SICCI, Chennai. The members of other Chambers of Commerce participated in the meeting. The Chairman, Mr.S.Santhanam and Presidents of other Chambers of Commerce passed a detailed Resolution about his contribution to Trade and Commerce and handed over the same personally to Mrs.Haja Shareef.

A Get-Together and Open House Meeting was arranged by our Chamber with Mr.B.P.Verma, Member, Central Board of Indirect Taxes for Customs and Excise, New Delhi, held at Hotel Savera and interacted with the
Members about the problems faced by them with Customs and Central Excise and other Officials from the said departments were present. Our President, Mr.S.Santhanam, presided.

An Open House Meeting with the Chief Commissioner of Excise & Customs, Mr.M.V.Reddy, was held from 10.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M. at Hotel Savera, Chennai. The problems and difficulties experienced with the admini stration of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax which were presented by the members were replied suitably by the officers. Mr.S.Santhanam, our President and Chairman of the Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce, welcomed the gathering.

An Awards function at Hotel Palmgrove, Chennai. Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chettiar 51st Birthday Commemmoration Awards were presented for Best Designer and Best Weaver. Sri Champalal Savansukha Memorial Cash Awards were distributed for Best Students of B.Com., Degree Course. The Awards were presented by Mrs.Thilakavathi Mohan. Justice S.Mohan, Former Judge, Supreme Court, presided over the meeting. Dr.N.C.Raghavachari, Senior Advocate, delivered a Special Address.

Under the auspices of the Chamber, the Book entitled “Let us grow old gracefully” authored by Sri.S.Sanjivi to commemorate the completion of Sixty Years of age by Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti was released by Justice S.Mohan.

12-03-2001 Event
Our Chamber collected from our Executive Members a sum of Rs.23,603/- towards contribution for Gujarat Earthquake Relief Fund. This amount was presented personally to the Secretary, Public Department, Fort St.George, Chennai.
02-01-1993 Event
Our President, Mr.V.Ramachandran took over the Chairmanship of the Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce from October 1992 for a period of One Year, this being the turn of the Tamil Chamber by rotation, which was held at Connemara Hotel.
