Our Chamber collected from our Executive Members a sum of Rs.26,000/- towards contribution for Tsunami Relief Fund. This amount was presented personally to the Secretary, Public Department, Fort St.George, Chennai.

Dr.Manuel R Pinheiro, our past Vice-President, passes away. Chamber condoled his death.

The 57th Annual General Body Meeting at Hotel Palmgrove, Chennai. Mr.S.Santhanam, President, presided over the meeting.

Our Chamber held also the Award Function. Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chettiar 51st Birthday Commemmoration Award were presented for Best Designer and Best Weaver for the year 2001 and Sri Champalal Savansukha Memorial Cash Award was presented to the Best Students of B.Com., Degree Course.

The Award was presented by Dr.(Mrs)P.Nagabooshanam, Former Vice-Chancellor, Dr.Ambedkar Law University, who presided over the function.

Our Chamber arranged a Felicitation Function to Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, our Vice-President, who was conferred the title “PADMA SHRI” by the President of India, at New Woodlands Hotel, Chennai. His Excellency, The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri P.S.Ramamohan Rao, presided over the function. Shri A.Natarajan, Former Director, Doordarshan Kendra, felicitated Dr.Nalli Kuppu Swami Chetti. Mr.S.Santhanam, President of the Chamber,welcomed the gathering.

Mr.S.V.Ramanujam Chetty, who was our Committee Member for many years passes away. Chamber condoled his death.

Mr.B.R.Dujari of M/s.Kalpana Agencies, who was our Vice-President, passes away. Chamber condoled his death.

Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar met the Hon’ble Minister of Shipping & Surface Transport, Highways Thiru T.R.Baalu on behalf of The Tamil Chamber of Commerce and made a representation to expedite 1) The Sethu Samuthiram Project 2) Ennore Express Highway Linking Chennai Port And Ennore Port 3) To include the Tamilnadu Ports in the Sagar Mala Project

The Diamond Jubilee of the Chamber was celebrated at the Smt.Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium, Mylapore Chennai 600 004, Hon’ble Minister Mr.S.S.Palanimanickam, Minister of State for Finance (Revenue), inaugurated and Honorable Minister Mr.R.Velu, Minister of State for Railways release the Diamond Jubilee Souvenir and Mr.Veeramani, Managing Director, M/s.Gem Granites received the First Copy the Souvenir and Mr.E.Sundaramurthy, Vice Chancellor Tamil University, Thanjavur was the Guest of Honor.

Mr.V.L.Dutt, Director, The K.C.P Ltd due to Unavoidable circumstances was unable to attend the Celebration and with great hearted Mr.R.Veeramani, accepted to be the guest of honor.

Mr.S.Santhanam, President welcomed the gathering, Dr.Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti, Chairman -Souvenir Celebrations Committee delivered the speech “Report on the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.”

Our President Mr.C.Ratanchand Savansukha was felicitated by the Committee of Hosts and by our Chamber at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Madras. His Excellency Dr.M.Chenna Reddy, who was gracious enough to accept to be the Chief Guest could not be present owing to indisposition. Mr.M.V.Arunachalam, Industrialist, presided. A meeting with Mr.Chow Hoi Hee, Manager, Inter national Operations and Mr.V.Subramanian, Centre Director, of the Singapore Trade Development Board was organized at the premises of the Chamber. Mr.C. Ratanchand Savansukha, President, welcomed the Visitors.

A Seminar on “Financial Investments – Perspective and Prospects” was organized by the Chamber at Hotel New Woodlands, Madras. President, Mr.C. Ratanchand Savansukha, gave the Welcome Address. Dr.M.Gopalakrishnan, Former Chairman, Indian Bank, inaugurated the Seminar. Hon’ble Justice Dr.S.Mohan, Former Judge, Supreme Court, presided over the Inaugural Session. Key-Note Address was given by
