On this day a letter received from Ministry of Shipping, Road transport and Highways, Department of Shipping (Ports Wing) stating that Mr.Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar , Vice President of our Chamber has been appointed as Trustee in the Board of Trustees for the Port of Chennai for the term 01.04.2006 to 31.03.2008.

The Chamber convened an ‘Interactive Session on Budget 2006’ at Hotel Comfort Inn The Marina Towers, Chennai-8. Hon’ble Chief Justice Mr.S.Mohan, Former Judge Supreme Court was the Chief Guest of the evening. Mr.V.Murali, Member, Central Council of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi highlighted on Direct Taxation. Mr.Joseph Prabakar, Advocate & Tax Consultant highlighted on Indirect Taxation with Powerpoint Presentation. A Booklet on the Salient Features of Finance Bill 2006 was released during the session for the benefit of our members. The booklet was sponsored by Mr.Sathyanarayan R.Dave, Vice President and Chairman of the Sub-Committee-Seminars, Press, Media & Taxation. Mr.K.E.Mohan, Vice President welcomed the gathering, Mr.Sathyanarayan R.Dave, Vice President and Chairman of the SubCommittee coordinated the session. Mr.P.Chandrasekar, Hony.Secretary compered and proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting was followed by dinner.

The Chamber celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Valedictory Function at Hotel Residency Towers, T.Nagar, Chennai. Hon’ble Justice Thiru S.Natrajaran, Hon'ble Former Judge – Supreme Court, presided over the function. Dr.J.Sridharan, Chief Commissioner of Customs-Preventive was the Chief Guest of the evening. Thiru A.V.M.Saravanan, M/s.AVM Productions was the Guest of Honour. In the function Past Presidents Mr.M.Kothandaraman, Mr.T.G.Krishnamurthy, Mr.C.Ratanchand Savansukha, Mr.V.Ramachandran, Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti were honoured and Mr.S.Santhanam was honoured on his completing 10 years of Service as President in the Chamber. Past Secretaries Mr.P.A.Deivasigamani, Dr.Ittah Sambasiviah, Mr.R.Srinivasan were honoured. Mr.C.V.Rajasekar received the award on behalf of late Sri.C.A.Vasudevan.

The Chamber also honoured Mr.V.Ramachandran, Past President and Mr.S.Krishnaram Davey, Past Vice President on their completion of 50 years as members of Madras Bar Association. Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti participated in the function. Dr.Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, our Patron Member made a donation of Rs.10,000/- in Commemoration of our Diamond Jubilee Celebrations to the Slum Children Sports Talent & Education Development Society. Mr.Umapathi, Secretary received the Cheque. Mr.S.Santhanam, welcomed the gathering. Mr.Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar was the convenor of the function. Mr.P.Chandrasekar, Hony.Secretary compered and proposed the vote of thanks.

The 62nd Annual Session of the Chamber was inaugurated at Hotel Comfort Inn Marina Towers, Egmore, Chennai. Mr.S.Santhanam, President, welcomed the gathering. Mr.Binoy Gupta, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax was the Chief Guest of the evening. Mr.P.Chandrasekar, Hony.Secretary proposed the Vote of thanks.

The Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce convened a Felicitation function to Shri Onkar S.Kanwar, President, The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry on 29th August 2005. Mr.S.Santhanam, Chairman, Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce presided over the meeting and welcomed the gathering. Mr.R.Veeramani, President, The Southern India Chamber of Commerce & Industry, gave a brief Introduction speech of Mr.Onkar’s. A Felicitation address given by Mr.Syed Muneer Ahmed, President, The National Chamber of Commerce. Later Shri Onkar S.Kanwar, in his address gave a brief history of the development of FICCI and the members involved in various activities. He called upon the Chambers to have an interactive session to improve the business sector. Mr.Mahendra Parmar, President, Hindustan Chamber of Commerce proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting was compered by Hony.Secretary Mr.P.Chandrasekar.
